Spiritual Awakening- A Psycho-Spiritual Perspective

It’s not just an awakening of Spirit.

Spiritual awakening is not just an awakening of the Spirit.

It can be a shattering of the mind, eruption of emotion and collapsing of the soma.

A Spiritual-Psychological-Somatic awakening.

I get it.

This doesn’t sound as sexy.

But its’ a more accurate caption of what Spiritual Awakening actually looks like.

Humans no longer need to escape to the Himalayan mountains in pursuit of this spiritual awakening.

Spirit says, “Save yourself the flight fee, let’s do this in the comfort of your modern-metrics-obliging life”.

Only its’ not comfortable, bursting through our chakras in the most random and inconvenient ways possible, bringing multiple moments of discomfort.

Heavens take me to the Himalayan mountains please!

Spirit sometimes like to fuck shit up.

Perhaps this is because we ignore the whispers.

We drowned them out with the latest Netflix series, incessant Instagram scrolling, seeking in the bottle of the man-made imposter Spirit.

Maybe its’ a cocktail of external stimuli giving us the dopamine hit we crave.

We need.

To get through the impossible demands of human living in the modern world.

Spirit’s got a lot of lovers to compete with for our attention, for our embrace.

Crashing, smashing, tearing her way through our bodies, minds, hearts and our lives.

Yes, that will do it!

Got my attention now.

With this powerful kundalini energy pulsing through our being, pushing all the energetic and emotional debris to the surface. So too do our traumas rise.

Those painful memories and em-ocean we prayed would settle at the bottom of the subconscious ocean.

All this smashing and crashing has the broken pieces of ourselves bobbing on the surface like a shipwreck.

A Spiritual Awakening can leave us feeling shipwrecked.

Washing up to the shore all the stones we’d left unturned.

The fragmented pieces of ourselves we left behind, with that memory, that moment.

But Spirit says, “This life needs ALL of you. Let’s not leave any pieces of you behind. Let’s go retrieve every piece of you back. Let’s go treasure hunting!”

This treasure hunt, this Soul Retrieval, can look like night terrors.

Our fears, pain, expressions of ourselves we demonised. Showing us what we made our experiences mean about us. The distorted narratives we created about who we are, what’s possible for us and this life. My night terrors waited to meet me with excited glee whenever my body gave into sleep.

Waking life was also waiting for me with panic attacks, dissociation and de-realisation. This deep sense of disconnection from my life and those in it. Overwhelmed and bewildered by the intensity and sensations inside this body.

I needed to escape this body!

Leaving my lower chakras, escaping to the soothing Magick of the upper chakras; I felt deeply ungrounded.

Yet on the outside, my life was seemingly grounded in stability, right on track to the false sense of security society sells us.

“Wake Up”, screamed Spirit. And gave me a good shake, no way was she tolerating being ignored any longer. Especially not for false sense of security.

Have you had a rude awakening?

I know I’m not alone. I know there are so many.

Too many suffering through what truly is a beautiful process of decay, death and re-birth. An initiation into the remembrance of what we’ve forgotten about the core of who we are.

The core of our why.

I believe some of this suffering is because most spiritual communities teach this awakening as being solely ‘Spiritual’ and the mental health community misdiagnoses based on the fragments of this experience.. treating the symptoms, missing the whole.

Really, Psychology & Spirituality need to make up and get married already!

Now, whenever I’m experiencing a spiritual initiation, a death and re-birth cycle. I surrender to the truth that this is not only impacting me spiritually, but psychologically and emotionally.

That my physical body is experiencing these very real somatic symptoms because of this energy shifting and transforming within me.

I treat me as the Holy Trinity I am…Mind, Body and Spirit.

I do the same with those I support.

There is no split. I see all of them.

When the lens is widened and we begin to witness ourselves, experiences and journey in this more expansive way; it offers a balm to the suffering that can be connected with Spiritual Awakening. Whether it presents as a crisis being the catalyst for this Awakening, or Awakening resulting in psychological, physical crisis occurring.

Globally supporting, guiding and mentoring those suffering because of the absence of expanding perceptions beyond one school of thought, philosophy. This is true consciousness, seeing the truth and beauty running through the streams of all different modalities. Knowing we are multidimensional beings having this wild human experience, this time round.
